Sintered parts for valve timing control system

The photo shows the sintered parts used in a variable valve timing control system for a motor vehicle engine. (The units are by courtesy of Hitachi Unisia.)
As one of the measures to realize more environmentally friendly motor vehicles, a move is being promoted for making the valve timing variable in accordance with the rotational speed.
One of the major component parts for this mechanism is a body vane sprocket. Its mass production model is featured with various new technologies: the vane and its boss are formed in near net shape; the sprocket section for a silent chain is highly resistant to contact pressure; and the sprocket is integrated with a thin-wall body for reducing the number of parts.
