Sintered Electromagnetic Stainless Steel for LPG Automobile Injectors
In recent years, LPG automobiles have attracted attention as a type of low-pollution vehicle with reduced concentrations of exhaust gas CO and NOx. Because a carburetor-type fuel supply system has been used to date, engine output and torque were lower than with gasoline-powered automobiles, which was a point of concern. Recently, however, a new injector-type fuel injection system has been constructed, securing output performance equal to that of gasoline automobiles while also realizing environment-friendly low pollution and high fuel economy.
Hitachi Powdered Metals developed a new sintered electromagnetic stainless steel for LPG automobile injectors that realizes excellent electromagnetism and response characteristics, which are particularly important in injectors, by achieving high magnetic flux density, high permeability, and low core loss. This new product also possess the airtightness necessary for injection of the vaporized LPG fuel, as well as excellent corrosion resistance.
In comparison with the conventional wrought stainless steel, this product has the following distinctive features: (1) High response is achieved by high specific resistance using a high Si composition design. (2) As a Pb-free material, the product is environment-friendly. (3) Near-net shape production using the powder metallurgy method is possible, resulting in excellent cost performance.
